Las Vegas, NV. (November 6, 2017) – Derek Uehara, a Certified Financial Planner® and a small business owner who has served as a member of the United States Army Reserve will be declaring his candidacy for Nevada State Treasurer at the Republican Men’s Club Luncheon on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
“As a Certified Financial Planner, I know how important an individual’s money is to them,” said Uehara. “In fact, if we look at the political landscape today, 75% of what we debate about is money; where we get it and how we spend it. The State Treasurer is responsible for managing the state’s assets prudently and responsibly. This is not an accounting job; it is an investment job and I am well qualified.”
“While the State Treasurer position is normally a low-profile position, I wholeheartedly believe that it can be a strong platform to positively impact the future of our young people, improve the quality of life in our communities, and enhance the long-term economic health of the State,” said Uehara.
As a community leader, Derek’s involvements include serving as a high school mentor with the Henderson Chamber of Commerce’s “I CAN BE Program,” as a mentor at the Clark County School District Summer Business Institute, as President of Nevada Small Business Council, and as a Board Member of both the Water Street District Business Association and the University of Hawaii Alumni Association. He is a member of Leadership Las Vegas, Class of 2005, and a recipient of the International President’s Award for Humanitarian Service from Lions Clubs International.
“Derek is a strong leader in our community,” said Rudy Pamintuan, President of Sherman Consulting, Inc. and Former President’s Advisory Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islanders. “Nevada is a diverse state and Derek brings the necessary experience and passion to serve all of our State’s residents. As always, Derek stands ready to roll his sleeves up and work for the families of Nevada. “
“It’s high time we put qualified candidates in office and not career politicians,” said Rana Goodman, Political Editor of The Vegas Voice said. “At a time when the voters and the public want their voices heard and want establishment politics to come to an end, Derek is definitely the perfect choice.”
